The annual Hoops for Troops Night at Barclays Center is just one part of a year-round mission to honor the service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans and active-duty military. From game night features in the arena to events connecting players and staffers to service members and their families, the Nets believe in building a bond with those who protect our country. This year, we’re proud to introduce the BSE SkillBridge program in partnership with the U.S. Defense Department, providing internships for transitioning service members to get real-world job experience.

TAPS Fallen Soldier: United States Army Major Victor Trouvé Gronenthal

On November 3, in conjunction with TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors), we will honor the family of United States Army Major Victor Trouvé Gronenthal at Barclays Center. MAJ Gronenthal’s family will be invited to watch practice and meet members of the team and Nets staff to thank them for his sacrifice.

After graduating from the U.S. Military Academy, Victor was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. As a Captain in the U.S. Army, Victor earned a Master’s Degree in Engineering and Industrial Management from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 2011.

Victor married Erika Glausen of Long Island, New York on June 24, 2005 in West Point, New York. Victor was a devoted husband and a loving father to his two sons, Kai Victor and Finn Trevor.

MAJ Gronenthal excelled in multiple leadership positions while in the Army and commanded soldiers in both combat and in garrison with distinction. Victor served admirably during his three overseas combat tours, two to Iraq and one to Afghanistan, earning the Bronze Star Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal.

Major Victor Trouvé Gronenthal, 31, passed away on January 23, 2015 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was an avid cyclist, pinball machine restorer, and outdoor enthusiast. All who knew Victor miss his infectious smile and gregarious personality.
